Sour cherry trees are found all over Greece. Cherry trees thrive in the Greek climate and the cherries are used in all sorts of dishes and pressed to make the most delicious juices and sodas. This Sour Cherry Rum Punch is a great way to use the juice, I think, when you’re in the mood for a sweet rum punch that’s perfect for sipping around the pool.
The first thing to do is make the sour cherry syrup on the stovetop. You’ll know it’s thickened and ready when it is syrup like Grenadine. I often start off with a cup of juice and reduce it by half. Then I store whatever I don’t use for the drink in the refrigerator for later.
Making this punch is super simple. If you want to serve more than just yourself and a friend, I recommend quadrupling the quantities and making a pitcherful. It’s easier to pour into glasses this way, and it also looks so pretty in a pitcher on the table.
Be sure to add this cocktail to your offerings when people come over this summer. It is guaranteed to be a hit!
Sour Cherry Rum Punch
Sour cherry is a common flavor in Greece. You can find sour cherry juice for sale in every store and it’s a staple in most homes. They also use it to make popular sodas and cocktails. Today, I’m using it to make a sweet syrup to flavor a yummy rum punch that’s perfect for your next party. Ingredients:
2 oz rum
1 oz sour cherry syrup (you can make your own by simmering 1 cup sour cherry juice with ¼ cup sugar until it’s thickened)
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
4-6 oz sour cherry soda
Fresh mint leaves, for garnish
Cherry, for garnish
Instructions:
Fill a glass with ice cubes.
Pour in the rum, sour cherry syrup, and fresh lemon juice.
Stir well to mix the ingredients.
Top with sour cherry soda, adjusting the amount to your preference.
Garnish with fresh mint leaves and a cherry.
Enjoy!
